We want to thank the Schooley's Mountain Fire Company for coming to Cucinella today to teach our preschool students about fire safety. The firefighters spent the morning talking to our students about the equipment they use to help keep us safe. It was a great opportunity for our students to see a firetruck up close and personal. Thank you to the fire men and women who keep our community safe!

On Thursday April 13th, our 4th, 2nd, and Kindergarten students participated in the 2nd Annual STEM Recycle Carnival! This event was the brainchild of our STEM PLC team members led by Mrs. Amy Casha last year. Now the 2nd and 4th grade teams have taken this event to new heights. These teachers inspired a cooperative STEM experience in which our 2nd and 4th grader students created carnival games from 100% recyclable materials! The 4th grade students used this opportunity to mentor and teach their 2nd grade counterparts about physics and the engineering design process. After creating and assembling their games, our kindergarten students were then invited to play their games and win prizes. The students did an impressive job working cooperatively to build a carnival their guests would never forget! Congratulations to all involved for a wonderful job!

Our Third Grade Classes have been rehearsing hard this week, and the results were beautiful music in their class performances. The students under the direction of Mrs. Postigo put in tremendous effort to create this beautiful music and should be commended for their hard work.

We are looking to fill several Substitute School Bus Driver positions. This is a perfect job for a part-time school employee, semi-retired person, a college student, a parent, or someone needing a little extra cash – who can work mornings, afternoons or both. Training will be provided to the right person to obtain a CDL-B school bus driver's license. Training classes are held throughout the year. The job is a non-contracted substitute position with the Washington Township Schools mainly driving students to/from school, with field and athletic trips available. If desired, the possibility exists to eventually move into a contracted driving position where benefits may be available. If you, or someone that you know, is interested, please contact the transportation department for more information or apply through the employment section of our schools website, www.wtschools.org, and fill out the application for Substitute School Bus Driver.

Our 4th and 5th grade engineers from Mrs. Van Houten’s and Mrs. Richardson & Mrs. Leonard’s classes completed various STEM activities for this year’s Pi Day. Fifth graders took on the role of mentor, guiding fourth graders in how to round decimals, determine diameter and circumference, and take on visual challenges. To celebrate Pi Day, they selected four lucky winners from a raffle to receive a special Pi Day t-shirt, after correctly rounding the decimal numbers to 3.14. Thank you, Mrs. Van Houten, Mrs. Richardson, and Mrs. Leonard for creating this wonderful and memorable activity.
