As we head into the final weeks of the 2024-2025 School Year, we wanted to reach out directly to provide you with some information about our orientation plans as we prepare to welcome our newest Panthers to Long Valley Middle School in the Fall of 2025 as they start Sixth Grade. We are excited to begin this process and look forward to helping your student make a successful transition to middle school. A special “thank you” to our 5th grade colleagues who greatly assist in this planning process and our LVMS School Counselors, Ms. Denny, Mrs. Hollman, and Mrs. Werneke for all of their efforts in organizing these great events!
Spring 2025 Incoming 6th Grade Orientation Events
Scheduling: Over the course of the past several weeks, 5th grade teachers and administrators have been tasked with homeroom placements for 6th grade. Our Child Study Team Members have already been articulating with their elementary colleagues and our 6th Grade Counselor will also begin this process in the coming weeks. Please know, we cannot accommodate requests for placements, but many factors, both academic and social, are being considered with input from your students' current school given high priority.
LVMS Peer Leader Visits to Elementary Schools: Back in April, our LVMS Peer Leaders visited each of the elementary schools. This was the first of our orientation events and provided incoming students with a chance to meet their future classmates, and to ask questions about LVMS. This took place in small group settings to ensure students could communicate, and work closely, with our LVMS Peer Leaders. Feedback from our elementary colleagues and families indicate this was an overwhelming success!
Incoming 6th Grade Students Visit LVMS: In late May, all incoming 6th graders will visit LVMS during the school day. During their trip to LVMS, they will have the opportunity to participate in a middle school lesson in one of the ore Content areas (eg. Math, ELA, etc.). Students will also have a chance to meet with our school counselors, additional peer leaders, and our LVMS Leadership Team.
Incoming 6th Grade Parent Orientation: Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:30 PM. LVMS will be hosting a parent orientation for all incoming 6th grade parents at LVMS. This evening will include a welcome and overview from the administration, time with our 6th grade Team Leaders, and with our school counselors and peer leaders. Our goal during this parent orientation is for parents to learn more about the programs we have to offer at LVMS, and also to ease any concerns that you may have via question and answer opportunities.
This is an exciting time of year, and we hope that these plans and opportunities will help our newest Panthers feel welcome and set up for success when they join us in the Fall. We look forward to working together with you and your children in the years ahead, so we can help prepare them academically and socially for high school.
