Curriculum & Instruction

The goal of this site is to communicate clearly articulated curricula across grade levels and content areas to district educators, parents, and students. Each curriculum document reflects the teaching and learning within our district's classrooms. Please know that the curriculum is a living document that is continuously revised and monitored as we employ the most current, research-based instructional and assessment strategies available.

Each curriculum guide outlines clear objectives to meet thorough and explicit goals that promote the transfer of learning while addressing the needs of all students. Accommodations and modifications for the following types of learners: English Language Learners (ELL), 504, Special Education, At Risk, and Gifted and Talented are addressed across all subject areas.

Each curricular document is structured using the Understanding By Design framework developed by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins. This framework offers a planning process and structure to guide curriculum writing, assessment, and instruction. Specifically, each unit includes:

  • New Jersey Student Learning Standards

  • College and Career-Ready Practices and Educational Technology Standards

  • Enduring Understandings and Essential Questions

  • Related Misconceptions for the unit of study

  • Skills and Knowledge - what students should be able to know, do, and transfer

Please check back often. Information is routinely reviewed. For any questions, please contact Mrs. Deborah Russo, Director of Curriculum & Instruction.  (908) 876-4172 x1006 or drusso@wtschools.org
