August 18, 2023

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!

New school years bring new experiences, new classmates, and new opportunities!

As you prepare for the coming year, we hope that you had a chance to review your homeroom teacher and your bus information in OnCourse.  We know you might have other questions about the start of school, as well, and we wanted to provide some of that information so our LVMS Panthers can kick off the year on the right foot!  For instance, using the chart below, you’ll be able to see which other teachers are on your Team.  Much effort has been devoted to creating our student schedules. As a reminder, specific house placement or other requests cannot be taken or honored. Our first day of school is Thursday, August 31st, our homeroom teachers will distribute and review full schedules with all of our students.

There are quite a few other notes and bits of information for you here, as well - please take a few minutes to review this information carefully.  Be sure to stay tuned for additional updates and information as we prepare to begin the year!

Enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer! We hope that you will be able to join us at LVMS on Wednesday, August 23rd or Friday, August 25th from 9:00 - 11:00 AM for our Open House.

Regards,

M. Ippolito

LVMS Principal

LVMS Start-Up Items & Info

LVMS Mathematics Program & Placements:

On August 18th, all students were mailed information with their math program placement via USPS. That document thoroughly explains the placement process using multiple data points to identify the appropriate math class for the 2023-24 School Year.

School Supplies:

For our 2023 School Supply Lists please visit the main page of the LVMS Website and click “Back to School Fall 2023”. The School Supply list contains recommended / suggested items for all LVMS students. Teachers will share class specific material requests with students upon the start of classes (these requests will be minimal). Therefore, it may be best to wait to buy supplies once classes begin. All students should plan to come to school on the first day with their charged Chromebook in its case (new students will be issued Chromebooks in the first week of school).  If any additional supplies are needed, teachers will let students know when they meet with them, allowing ample time for parents to help acquire those supplies.

LVMS Communications:

Please take a moment to update your OnCourse Contact information.  It is important that this information is accurate (cell numbers, emergency contacts, & email addresses) so you are receiving notifications accordingly.  At the same time, please be sure you are accessing the LVMS Live Feed and News from the district’s mobile App.   This year we will continue to engage our families through the Monday Minute.  The Monday Minute is a great place to check for all LVMS updates and happenings at LVMS.  This will continue to be posted to the LVMS Website, WTSchools mobile app, and emailed directly to parents and students weekly.

Attendance Procedures (PickUp Patrol):

The Long Valley Middle School will continue utilizing "Pickup Patrol” to assist with our student attendance & reporting safety mechanisms.  PickUp Patrol is an app-based platform that will allow LVMS parents to submit requests for ‘early dismissal,’ enter information about a child’s absences, and submit information about late arrivals, etc.  More information will be provided in the upcoming days, but we highly suggest logging into your account and reviewing your students' pick up plans (login credentials are the same as the 2022-23 school year).   All LVMS Parents/Guardians will be required to enter attendance information exclusively on PickUp Patrol.  We DO NOT accept hand-signed parent notes or phone calls to report student schedule changes.  Please CLICK HERE to access PickUp Patrol.

LVMS Student Drop-Off/PickUp:

It is preferred that LVMS students ride buses to/from school since our parking lot is not structured for parent drop-off or pick-up; our buses are the easiest way to ensure timely arrival and dismissal.  Of course, we know this is occasionally necessary and information specific to those procedures will be coming to parents soon.  Students will not be permitted to enter the building until 8:30am unless they are participating in a club/program meeting before school begins - the club/program advisor will arrange to meet the students at our main entry on club days and provide supervision before the school day begins.  Additionally, Period 1 begins promptly at 8:50am.  Please CLICK HERE for additional information!

We Are PANTHERS:

We are pleased to announce the “Kick Off” to We Are PANTHERS!  In the upcoming weeks we will meet with all of our students to reiterate our 2023-24 expectations, and begin to share more information with the school community!
