Dear Parents:

Punxsutawney Phil really did see his shadow and now winter is here and with a vengeance.  The children were very excited to open their Valentine's Day cards and to enjoy their celebrations.  The staff also enjoyed the wonderful Valentine's Day luncheon which was once again coordinated by Mrs. Debbie Heditsch on behalf of the PTA.  All of the parents really brought out their "best" recipes for us!

I am pleased to announce that we received a generous grant from the Washington Township Education Foundation which will be used for library supplies.  The charitable spirit of the Flocktown-Kossmann families has been evidenced recently by the more that 1,775 clothing items donated through the holiday Giving Tree Program.  The items were collected and sorted by the Girl Scouts in Mrs. Doreen Forman's troop and were donated to foster families in Morris County.  The PTA "Souper Bowl" collection was also a great success, with over 95 bags of groceries being donated.  The donated food items were taken to the Long Valley Food Pantry and will help to restock their shelves.

In December, the fifth grade students performed a spectacular winter concert under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Hill.  I would also like to congratulate all of the fifth grade instrumental students on their first concert which was held at the end of January.  The students performed under the direction of Mrs. Tara Postigo, who agrees it was "an amazing concert".  The Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students enjoyed the 100th day of school this week with many activities and projects, including a visit by Mighty Zero the Hero.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Mr. Melofchik, which is now planned for mid-March. He has been spending at least one day a week with us since the first of the year and is getting to know the students and staff, as well as acclimating himself to the elementary environment.

I would like to remind you of the following school closings:

Dr. Nancy Canning, Ed.D.
