The regular meeting of the Washington Township Board of Education was held on June 3, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Library of the Long Valley Middle School.
CALL TO ORDER

President, called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

Liz George, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, were also present.
STATEMENT OF
MEETING NOTICE
Mrs. Skurchak announced that adequate notice of this meeting was given to the public 48 hours in advance of the date setting forth the date, time, location and type of meeting. Notice was published on May 2, 2007 in the Daily Record, one of the Board's official newspapers. The notice was also sent to the Observer Tribune and was posted with the Washington Township Clerk, the Washington Township Municipal Building bulletin board, the Washington Township Schools, and the administration building. The Board members and public were led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Education Committee – June 2, 2008 – reviewed by Mr. Daly – Topics discussed were as follows: A committee will be formed to review the
Everyday Math program and
Mr. Harmon presented
a draft letter to parents asking for volunteers; Review of the academic
assistance program; Technology plan for Science and Social Studies at the Long
Valley Middle School; purchase of a CAD program at the Long Valley Middle
School; and possible additional kindergarten sections at the Old Farmers Road
School and the Kossmann School. Mr.
Harmon asked to look at past Kindergarten enrollment trends.
Finance Committee – June 3, 2008 – reviewed by Mr. Rec – Topics discussed were the 2008-2009 food service program; 2008-2009 capital projects; details of the fire alarm bid award; and committee schedule for the 2008-2009 school year.
ADMINISTRATOR’S COMMENTS
Mr.
Sakala discussed the technology plan which was reviewed in the Education
Committee.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS
The meeting was
opened to the public at 8:54 p.m. A
member of the public thanked the board for agreeing to look into the Everyday
Math program and volunteered to serve on the committee looking into the
program. A petition about the Everyday
Math program was presented to the board.
A member of the public commented on the Continental Math League and
asked about test results. The meeting
was closed to the public at 9:05 p.m.

1. Motion to approve Christina Diehl, Centenary College Student, to complete 10 hours observation in June 2008 at the Cucinella School with Mrs. Denise Scairpon as her cooperating teacher and Professor Sherry Koeppen as her college advisor.
2. Motion to approve field trips for the 2007-2008 school year as presented.
